Our new dog, Mel! We adopted him on August 9th from the Bide-a-wee adoption center in Manhattan.

He's a 9 year old German Shepherd mix (probably part collie). He had been adopted as a puppy and had an owner at one point, but was recently found stray in the streets - most likely abandoned. He's a 9 year old German Shepherd mix (probably part collie). He had been adopted as a puppy and had an owner at one point, but was recently found stray in the streets - most likely abandoned. He had been in a shelter, then in the adoption center for quite some time - people always want puppies - but he's a great dog! Really sweet, calm, intelligent and loyal. He's settling in just fine at home and seems to be doing great.

ABOUT Mel

This handsome, gentle bear is named Mel, and he is patiently waiting to meet you! Mel came to Bideawee from the city shelter, where he had been picked up from the street - it's possible that this poor sweetheart was abandoned. A mature pooch at 9 years old, Mel will be a great companion for a family that likes going out for leisurely strolls and, generally, taking it easy! Adults and children ages 5 and up are recommended. Mel is a Shepherd/Collie mix that is very friendly with other dogs, but he should not live with cats, as he loves to chase them. He weighs 50 pounds and is already housebroken.
